Gallatin is the Sumner County seat, about thirty-five minutes northeast of downtown Nashville on I-65 and Vietnam Veterans Boulevard, with a courthouse square of nineteenth-century storefronts and Old Hickory Lake along its southern edge. Its best-known neighborhoods sit on that water. Fairvue Plantation, laid out around the 1832 Fairvue mansion, and Foxland Harbor both pair golf with lake frontage and hold some of the largest houses in the county, built from the early 2000s onward. Inland, Kennesaw Farms, Carellton, Hunt Club, Cambridge Farms and Twin Eagles filled in through the 2000s and 2010s with brick traditional houses on suburban streets, and the older neighborhoods near the square keep bungalows and four-squares from the early twentieth century.

Owners in Fairvue and Foxland commission kitchens, bars and closets at the scale of the house. Owners in Carellton and Kennesaw Farms commission the finishing work a production house needs. Owners near downtown commission cabinetry that suits an older home.

What do Gallatin homeowners usually ask us for?

In Fairvue Plantation and Foxland Harbor, the houses are large and the rooms are tall, so owners ask for cabinetry with the presence to match: a kitchen with a full-height pantry wall and a substantial island, a wet bar or butler's pantry between kitchen and dining room, a paneled study, and a primary closet built as a dressing room with an island and lighting. Because many of these houses are only fifteen or twenty years old, the work often replaces cabinetry that was never quite right for the room.

In Carellton, Kennesaw Farms, Hunt Club and Twin Eagles, the requests are closets with drawers instead of wire, pantries with cabinetry and a counter, mudroom lockers, garage storage and a home office wall, along with kitchen remodels in the earlier phases. Near the square, the older houses call for inset cabinetry in proportion to tall baseboards and original windows, usually a kitchen and a bath done one at a time.

What is different about working on a home in Gallatin?

Gallatin covers more ground than it looks, from lake coves off Foxland Harbor to the square to farmland north of town, so we plan each project as a day trip with everything on the truck. Permits come through the City of Gallatin, and Fairvue and Foxland have architectural review for exterior changes. Lake and golf houses were often built by custom builders rather than production crews, which means better bones but more variation from house to house, and we measure accordingly before anything is built.

Gallatin questions

Every question we get

Do you work on homes in Fairvue Plantation and Foxland Harbor in Gallatin?

Yes. Both neighborhoods are a good fit for shop-built cabinetry: large kitchens, tall ceilings, formal dining rooms that benefit from a butler's pantry, and primary suites with room for a true dressing room. We design to the scale of the house and coordinate with the neighborhood's architectural review where a project touches the exterior.

Can you replace builder-grade closets and pantries in a Gallatin home?

Yes. Houses in Carellton, Kennesaw Farms, Twin Eagles and similar neighborhoods usually came with wire shelving in every closet and pantry. We replace it with built-in hanging, drawers, adjustable shelving and counter space made in our shop, finished to suit the house, and we can do a single closet or every closet in the home.

Do you remodel kitchens in the older homes near downtown Gallatin?

Yes. Older houses near the Gallatin square generally have narrow kitchens with high ceilings and original trim, and they suit cabinetry drawn specifically for them: inset doors, tall rather than deep runs, and finishes chosen against the existing floors and woodwork. We measure the actual room and build to it rather than to standard sizes.
